Upgrading FX2 from 18" to 20" OEM FX wheels

Does anything need to be done when swapping from the 18" rims on my FX2 to OEM 20" FX rims?

Is there any difference with the FX2 and FX4 rims? I'm looking at picking up a used set.

I assume I'll have to get the sensors programmed?

Anything other concerns in making this swap? Speedometer recalibration?

Thanks.

You won't need a to have the PCM / TCM changed if you maintain the same overall diameter tire. Make sure you have the correct frequency sensors, some are 315 and some are 433 or something along those lines.

One item you may want to watch is swaybar size. I know on the expedition AND Super Duty they change the swaybar depending on if the truck is equipped with 18" rims or 20" rims. This would only pertain to the front end of your truck but still would be worth looking into especially if you can improve handling some more.

MEANING: 275/55x20

2009+ are the 315mhz variety - valve stem

*Motorcraft TPMS-12

The 433mhz is the band sensor.

There is no need to look-into / consider the front sway bar. 17" / 18" / 20" / 22", 2wheel drive / 4wheel drive, cab type, model, etc. macht nichts ... they're all the same.

And there are no issues with rim offset and/or backspacing.

I do know there is a difference between 4wd and 2wd as there are two part numbers however it appears that the wheel size makes no difference for f-150s and swaybar choice. Only 2wd vs 4wd.

I would be going from 265/60R18 to 275/55R20. From my calculations, I would be going from a 30.519" to a 31.909 diameter. Would that make a difference?

So if I stay with 2009+ wheels, I'm ok with the sensor? I should have mentioned this is for a 2013.

Thanks.

Try this.

It would be best if you went to the dealer to have the ecm flashed for the different wheel size.

personally I don't think the small change in tire size will make a difference. If you have a GPS use that to check how accurate the speedo is, or you could do it the old way with a stopwatch and mile markers.

AND ... That's because of the difference is the front axle configurations - F-150 versus Raptor.

The difference is slight and the FoMoCo IDS (Integrated Diagnotic System) can accomodate since 265/60X18 and 275/55X20 are both stock parameters - 683 / 653

still two different sizes and stiffness. You said there was only one for the F-150 and 2wd or 4wd did not matter, which is incorrect, there is more than one choice it just is not specific to rim size but drive type.

montecarlo31 - still two different sizes and stiffness. You said there was only one for the F-150
While acknowledging (and knowing) that there are 2 different sway bars did not say that there was "only one for the F-150". Re-Read ...
There is no need to look-into / consider the front sway bar.
Next sentence ...
17" / 18" / 20" / 22", 2wheel drive / 4wheel drive, cab type, model, etc. macht nichts ... they're all the same.
In response to montecarlo31 pertaining to rims/wheels.

...and 2wd or 4wd did not matter, which is incorrect, ...
Which was referring to rim/wheel fitment - which was the topic of the thread.

...there is more than one choice it just is not specific to rim size but drive type.
And therefore ... There is (was) no need to look-into / consider the front sway bar.

Yeah bra you are totally right you were totally talking about the wheels in the same context as the swaybars bra. Just admit you were wrong and move on.

Is this something that the dealer has to do or can any tire shop do this?

Dealership ... I doubt that a tire shop would have the FoMoCo IDS (t'ain't cheap).

An alternative is to flash the PCM with a tuner (also not cheap) to change the revolutions-per-mile.
