I was told that they needed to be changed by about 90,000 miles or so. What about coil packs?

i own both a 5.4 and V10 2V version in a '98 expedition and '02 excursion both with 3.73 gears i'm very happy with both. i wanted to say the 2V V10 responds very well to tuning as any of the V10 guys can attest to.

here's my opinion, the 3V 5.4 in a super duty with 4:10s is decent. but i believe from driving various super duties over the years either version of the V10 feels stronger and has better low end TQ.

I would never wait longer than 50k to change plugs. Look at it this way, $130 for plugs is cheaper than 1 injector on a Diesel. Stay with Motorcraft parts and you won't have any issues. Others have used Bosch or other brands and have switched back to Motorcraft because their truck run like crap. As far as coil packs, just replace the ONE thats bad, you don't have to waste money and buy and replace 10 at once. I do however have a spare I carry with me.

I've had
-1 2v 5.4
-2 2v 5.4's
-1 3v v10.

The v10 is well worth the extra fuel usage. It has plenty of power.

The 2v (2002) 5.4 felt about as powerful as the 3v 5.4

You shouldn't have problems merging in traffic either way though.

All of the engines have been uber reliable, and thirsty

Extra fuel isn't that big of a problem. Every truck is thirsty one way or another.

As far as coils is concerned I replaced all 10 of mine with coils from Uneek Supply and had awesome service from them and they were on the truck when I sold it.

They seem to be about half the price of Motorcraft coils...even cheaper than Summit racing. But what's the quality of them compared to Ford's?

The 3V engine also got variable valve timing, which was used to create more low end torque and a flatter torque curve.
