I have a 1977 F250, Super cab, 8' box. The sheet metal and trim are excellent but the 400 engine is tired. I would like to put the cab, front end and box on a 1995 to 1997 Diesel chassis (4x4, 5 speed) and use the heat/ac unit, power brake booster, etc from the 1995-1997. I am an experienced body man so combining the '77 and '95 to'97 radiator supports and modifying the firewall will not be a problem. My question is, is the 95-97 speedometer cable driven or electric? I want to use the '77 dash if I can and add a tach. I want to keep as much of the '77 look as possible.

'91 and earlier trucks have the speedometer gear in the BW1356 transfer case. I'm not sure if it's possible to convert your case to gear driven, or if you'd need to get a new case, but that's where you need to look.
