How much 911 did you pour in. I grabbed my bottle and poured the whole thing in before I read the directions, opps only called for 1/2 the bottle. I am not worried about it, just curious if you had succes with less than 36 ounces.
I used about half, 16oz. Hope not to need it, but saving some just in case. The tank might have been okay, but the inline filter was gelled for sure.
-14 this a.m. Not plugged in. 1/8 of tank of fuel. 5w40 synthetic. 4 year old batteries.
She started right up but smoked and choked for about 60 seconds. Barely tapped the throttle and it cleared right up.
I was surprised it started so easy.
I had a no start situation this morning followed by what I believe is a gelled fuel situation this afternoon. No start was from not being plugged in and weak starting system.
I think it gelled because I drove about a 1/4 mile then lost basically all power, 1st gear wasn't happening, had to drive 3/4 of a mile to the house in low with it stumbling and powerless.
Tomorrow morning I am gonna go track down some of that 911 and pour it in, as well as some anitgel, apparently this wintermix fuel gels at about -10.
Well if it makes anyone feel better, It dropped down to 39° here one night last week & my truck would not start.
I guess It's time for new glow plugs & a relay. My mixing chamber is long gone as is my fuel bowl heater.
I'm planning on moving out of Florida so I need to pay more attention to these cold start threads...

At least you can wear shorts and a t shirt while you fix it! Yeah, I have learned a lot recently. Sub zero temps up the learning curve quickly.
I use stanadyne (blue bottle) in every tank and have no fuel delivery problems (65-70 psi on start and idle) but still have had hard starts and romps after being plugged in this week. My starting system is pretty much brand new except for the starter. Changed gp's, gpr, and orings last winter. I was wondering if their is any harm in cold starting in 80e setting? Seems like it starts faster or with more authority when starting in 80e but I've not tried it in the cold.
It does not take much when the heat is applied directly to the bottom of the pan and there is not room for more due to drainplug placement.
5w-40 synthetic oil (your favorite flavor).
Straight #1 diesel with a lubricity additive. Straight #1 will give quicker starts and the smoke and slobbering quit way sooner. In some parts of the country, it is nearly impossible to find. For those who are stuck with winter blend #2 use a reputable cold flow improver in every tank.
Carry Melt Down, 911, or Diesel Recovery, just in case. These treatments are intended for emergency use only so I would not run them as a matter of habbit.
Every October I check the starting system including batterys, GP's, and GPR.
I plug both my pan heater and block heater in at 0 or below.

Reason: correct viscosity
It was -29 here this morning. Here are my secrets to a reliable truck.
I added a silicone pad heater to the oil pan. Amazon.com: Kat's 24100 100 Watt 4"x 5" Universal Hot Pad Heater: Automotive It does not take much when the heat is applied directly to the bottom of the pan and there is not room for more due to drainplug placement.

My dogs might steal the heater pad if I left it laying around. How hot does it get?
