Thanks, and i was reading last night and saw a few people said the receiving tank has the bad check valve. Im not sure if it will be easier for me to drop the tank or take the bed off to get both of these problems fixed. I looked yesterday and looks like i will have to take off my hitch also. sticks in about 3/4 of a inch inside the frame.

can i buy just a check valve?

Im young and just bought my first house so money can get tight at times and just bought this truck. Im going to slowy get it back in tip top shape as i can find side jobs. I appreicte all the help as im going to attempt to fix this by myself.

it has brand new fuel pumps assembly's (with check valves)
It could be pushing gas thru the full rear tank, up to the evap system, and into the engine. Ever get a rich exhaust smell when running?

The tank is actually leaking I found out. I'm going to pull it down soon and replace the rear check valve. Wish I had a write up to make me feel better about doing this.

Depends... If you can get some help with lifting the bed, then it's pretty easy. Dropping tanks can be done by yourself.

I was able to do the bed by myself one time.. I ended up taking off the bumper and sliding (walking would probably be a better verb) the bed back and up on the tires. honestly, it was pretty easy. The hardest part was getting the bumper back on because it was awkward to hold by myself.. but ever that was done in under 15 minutes. Good luck!

Nice! I'd have been really scared of screwing up my bed, haha

Well I've been running the truck and been through some tanks of gas. Truck is still getting 5.5 mpg.

Any ideas?

1997 f350
460. 170k
Automatic
3.55 gears
35s

I drive it easy.

City? Highway?

My guess is that its just the 35's and 3.55 gears that are killing you. Even swapping gears you aren't gonna get great mileage. Good mileage out of a lifted 460 truck is never gonna happen.

Have you determined whether the speedo has been recalibrated for the bigger tires?

Mine gets decent highway mileage, but goes right out the window in the city

Assuming your stock tires were 235/85-16 (31.7" dia), then your 35s are 10% larger so you're going 10% farther than your odo says if it was not corrected. If that's the case it'd make your 5.5 mpg really be 6.1, which sucks just a little less. Might be all you can get out if it if "city" means lots of starts and never getting up to speed (the tall tires and short gears hurt you starting up). Could try going back to stock size tires.

Otherwise all the normal advice. Any codes? tuned up? Tires pumped up?

Recent tune up. I will check tire pressure tomorrow. Raining out now. I don't expect good gas mileage but 6mpg makes me think something is wrong.

Yeah, definitely not the best combo

True... Especially city driving when you gotta get those tires rolling.

Best I've ever tracked on the highway with my F-350 on 37s is 12.2 mpg at 60 mph. Without an overdrive transmission and having 4.56 gears that's about 2500 rpm.

EVERY TIME you start the truck take it out of OverDrive.

Also, I would be looking at replacing the O2 sensor

Why take it out of overdrive? Also the exhaust is true duals with no cats with magnaflow mufflers straight back into 4 inch tips. This is how I bought it. I will have to put hi flow cats on it soon for inspection.

Why look at the o2 sensor?
I'm a rookie sorry.

Really appreciate all the help and advice.
