Seems like you probably would see it, so this might not be your problem. It was just something to look for.

Check your local auto part store. Dorman makes a sliding window latch kit for trucks of this vintage. I saw 2 different part numbers and the application listing was a little wonky. If there is anything left of the old latch take it in with you to match it up.

Well turns out my rear fuel tank is actually leaking fuel. Doesn't matter how much fuel is in it, still leaks. Looks like its coming from the top and rolling down the side toward the motor. Any suggestions?

If it's from the top at any fuel level then you probably just need to take a look at the tank connections. You could also have a pin-hole leak in the fuel line up there, but I'd bet it's just a line connection.

Think I would have to drop the tank completely or lower it? Never done one on these trucks.

Truck is on 35s so I have plenty of room under there.

How much can u usually lower the tank before connections have to be unhooked?

Thanks everyone

You may be able to shine a light in there and see where the leak is coming from. Whether or not you can get to it may be another story... I've managed to get to mine from underneath coming in on the passenger side when I ran a fuel line to mine.

Dropping the tank really isn't difficult. Just make sure the tank is empty or close to it so you're not dealing with tons of weight. You should be able to take the fuel lines out of the clips on the frame and lower the tank all the way down if I remember correctly.

On check valves, if the front tank is pushing fuel into rear while using the front tank then the rear check valve is bad right? Or opposite.

I know that I pulled one on an '86 F350 and didn't have to disconnect the lines until it the tank was on the ground. I believe it was still similar through '97 at the end of the old body style. That was the same tank I put onto my '88 and it was a direct fit.

Am I on the right track with the check valves? Front tank fills rear so front tank check valve is bad?

Yeah, you've got it. Last time I checked those units were around $90 I think.

Opposite. Front tank is sending fuel to the place that has the weak check valve which would be the rear in this case.

Welcome to the 460 club... She'll pass anything on the road except a gas station... Of course you've got enough power to pull your own tanker truck behind you
