Could be that it's worn out or you don't have the door adjusted high enough, also check the little pin / adjuster in the back of the outside door handle to make sure it's not adjusted too far in. They also make shims that push the striker plate out a bit. If it's adjusted correctly and no worn out parts, the door should not come open

Hey Robo,
We also experienced the fun of a door opening after going over big bumps and around corners. Our '50 door has two latches in it - your door has to sit perfectly in there to catch both latches. If you only catch one - the door flies open at the most scary of times.
Our's is due to the door not being perfect in the opening & the rubber door seal being a little too stiff/thick. I think we have it latching correctly right now - but I advise passengers to buckle up.

Hey Robo,
We replaced the latch hardware that is on the post. We got it from Early Midwest ford but I'm sure there are other suppliers. It was pretty cheap & I really wanted that door to stay shut. There is a screw you can adjust that moves it in our out - just took some time fiddling around with it.
We wanted to drive ours while waiting for parts so we swapped the driver's side
post latch that worked over to the passenger side. It's an interesting design - I will probably break down & get better modern latches at some point.
