My daily driver....1931 Model A pickup

I haven't visited here often lately....Mainly because my 1979 Ford hardly ever breaks...

But I thought I would show you guys what I have been daily driving since February.

It's a late 1931 Ford Model A widebed pickup. It's mostly stockish. Just bolt on upgrades. It is built using all old original Ford parts and original aftermarket speed parts dating up to about 1950.

It has a Super Winfield 7:1 compression head and a Winfield SU-1A camshaft. It has a counter balanced crank and lightened flywheel. I am running a winfield downdraft carb and manifold. Probably about 75-80HP...or double stock ratings.

It is backed by a 1939 Ford v8 transmission and the stock rearend.

I am running 5.50x16 front tires and 7,50x17 rear tires. It currently has mechanical brakes, But I am in the process of changing them out for juice brakes and lowering it. It will pretty much remain stock other wise.

At the grocery

Day it came home

Thanks for looking!

WOW! Very nice A. I see you are at Gasworks Park there! I haven't daily driven an A since the early '70s. My hat's off to you. Huge fan of 16"-17" wheels on the model A. Drive it up to Orcas and I'll show you around the island. Can we go in YOUR truck?

Where I worked before retirement, one of the engineers drove a '28-'29 RPU every day, rain/snow or shine.

Just for yuks, these are 17's with juice brakes on my '31 roadster(and yes, it does have a '32 gas tank)

Nice pics of the 31A. It looks perfect to me just the way it is. Finally got started on some maintenance items on my 29 coupe. It didn't see the miles this past summer that it should have due to a few items that needed attention. Hope to fix all that in the coming weeks and be back on the road soon. Thanks again for sharing your pics.

Good eye! It is at Gasworks Park. I live on the North side of Greenlake. I've actually spent a fair amount of time on Orcas in fact. Family friends have some property by Doe Bay. thanks

Thanks, It's pretty nice, but not perfect enough to care about the paint. Which is perfect for me, because I still use it as a truck! thanks

Is it a hot rod or stocker? I had a flathead V8 powered 1931 coupe hot rod with a 3 inch chop. Very traditional build. It's in Germany now. Gonna build another someday.

It's fun, takes a different mindset to drive every day. In the end, it's worth it. thanks

Neat PU. Does it have an "A" or the pressurized oil "B - C" motor in it?

The B-C's actually aren't pressurized either. FWIW I am running an A engine with 7:1 compression Winfield head, a Winfield SU-1A camshaft, and a counterbalanced crank. I also have shaved the flywheel down to 40 pounds. Should be pretty fun.

Cool banger

That's a cool lookin' banger ! Yes you are right it takes a different mind set to drive. I think they make you a better driver as you learn the accelerate when you NEED to and brake when you NEED to! Hope that makes sense..

Was going to put up a pic of my 35 daily [almost] driver, but cant seem to attach from the computer?/
Anyway enjoy!

Interesting! I live half way between Olga and Doe Bay, on the side of Mt. Pickett. Last winter I was asked to re-do the choir loft in the Greenlake church on 64th and East Greenlake way. It had been remodeled in the '80s , and they wanted to bring it back to match the rest of the architecture of the 1906 original church. I grew up in old Richmond Beach, right on the rr tracks around the corner from the Cabin Tavern, been on Orcas since '78. I've owned 2 AAs. Current ongoing project is a '59 f350 9' flareside, converted from a stakebed, and running a cummins 6at from a ups truck. We gotta meet......

Thanks! It's hopefully gonna be a whole lot better with the upgrades. I toy with the idea of selling it and getting a 1932-40 v8 pickup and doing something similar, but I am going to try this for the next year or two.
