Hey, I recently bought an 81 ford truck which needs a paint job bad. The original paint it wearing this, and the bed corners are rusted out. I'm planning on painting it once school starts back, and i will do it in autobody. The truck is currently brown, with tan interior. I figure with the tan/brown interior i can paint it any color. If you have any suggestions on what might look good on my truck, just say so, and if you have a picture of the truck with that color of paint, that would be awsome. Thanks, Jared

 

i really like the silver/black combo. brown isn't bad but it sounds like you want a change, my last truck was two-tone brown which was nice because it hides the dirt well:

 

check my gallery. LOL Blue on blue. Red looks very ice on these trucks. Remember black is bad to keep clean. White is the same. 02 GM Indigo is SOOOO MINT.

My Chevy, I like the paint on her, but shows scratches BAD

 

I was thinking about painting it all black, but didntknow how hard it would be to paint black, considering this will be my first paint job. I know white is suposed to be the easiest to paint, but who wants white. kinda boring unless you have all the chrome trim, which mine doesnt have any. Red would also look awsome.

 

Go with Caterpillar Yellow or John Deere Green!! Maybe even Ford blue....

Two tone brown looks pretty good and it hides the dust/dirt really good and doesn't attract it like a magnet like black does.

Black is no harder to paint than any other color......probably easier because it covers better. Your bodywork has to be better with black though because it'll show everything.

Very few trucks use 'baby blue', but it looks great.

 

Either go for a Nice orange, or a dark green. I am tired of the norm.... Gonna paint my 86 when I finish the body work and have it down to orange or green

I like yur thinkin Omen, orange and dark green are the best colors in my opinoin. I've always like them. I was thinking orange in the first place, but didnt know what that would look like on a long bed plain jane truck.

If *YOU* are going to paint it, paint it a LIGHT color. An earlier answer stated that black was no harder than any other color. WRONG, WRONG, AND WRONG... ANY DARK color will show imperfections (prep work) MUCH more than light colors... these could include high/low spots, scratches, dings, dust, etc.. go light, I suggest, white, gold, tan, light blue, etc. STAY AWAY FROM DARKS... especially BLACK!!!

One suggestion: When spraying the primer coat, first coat it grey primer, THEN prime with red primer over the grey coat.. WHY??? when you start sanding your "red" vehicle and it turns "grey," you KNOW you sanded all parts visable. HTH, Glen
