Going Green - an oil cooler saga

Remember when I did my oil cooler rebuild... way back when... and got to dive head first into yanking out motors and all that jive...?

Well...
After all the fun with that, my oil cooler is leaking again.

Just so happens that i had a spare laying around from TXtinct's donor motor.
I really liked how Matt's oil cooler came out looking when i phosphate treated it...
So i did the same to this one.

Then got kinda finicky.
The aluminum housings were grimey, oxidized, and coated with gook.

I started off taking my time and going easy with a dremmel and small wire cup brush.
It was working to remove the crud... but was leaving a marbled finish.

To the blast cabinet with it!

I used some heavy grit play sand media and went crazy on them.
I made sure to stuff a few rags in the cooler tube recievers so they didnt get abraded.

Then...
Can you guess?
Any inkling at all what color i might have slathered on the housings?

Ok... to late... here is the answer...

And dont mind the little shameless advertising plug for my Wierdo's tattoo shop on my toolbox...

Just thought i'd share...
Kinda bored...

It has been phosphate treated. It will (should) keep this finish indefinitely. I sandblasted it before dropping it in the tank. It took copious amounts of flushing and high pressure air blasts to get it clean afterwards but came out looking ok...

I think the one i did for TXtinct came out much better... but the phosphate tank had just been cleaned, it was hot as ballz outside... and fresh chemicals.
