Painting complete truck

I have a 1951 f1 that I tried to paint and it didn't look like I wanted it I found a painter that would paint it but looks like he just wants to paint it complete without disassembling it.

Has anyone done this and how it look?

Its going to be a daily driver.

Assuming that it is going to be the same color then why not paint it as it sits? A lot depends on what paint is being used and what paint you used originally. Disassembly before painting ensures that the mating surfaces of the panels are well-coated and protected...it also makes a difference if you are looking for a show-quality job. Since you painted it first I am assuming that you did paint the mating surfaces and now you are just wanting a smoother/shinier finish? There are a number of what-ifs to be addressed in your question but from what you have said in yout OP I would say that you should be fine with an "assembled" paint job.

It is possible depending on how good of a job you want. I would suggest at least removing the grille and the rear fenders as they are very difficult to paint on the truck.

Hard to paint the back of the cab without removing the bed, I would insist the bed gets removed. Other than that it can be done, just spray paint the firewall and inner fenders black if it doesnt match the new color.

Thanks for the reply

The cost is quite abit more than I want to spend and not able to drive the truck to disassemble and paint

I did remove the rear fenders and boards painted on the mating side. Just not the color I liked too. lol

The truck has black expoxy primer on it.

You may want to at least pull the front fenders. You may have a nasty surprise. Mine looked great on the surface but the joint between the front fenders and the cowl was in bad shape despite a rubber welt. Also if you don't remove them I don't know how you will paint under and around the welt without it looking like poop is a few months.

If you are worried about money, then a assembled paint job is just fine. Remove what you want, and if the price is right, and you aren't going to put it in the auto-rama---I say have at it. Have done it both ways, and seems the cheaper you can build a truck, the more fun they are!! Less worries!
