I can't get this damn thing off.
It wouldn't budge by hand. I then tried a oil filter wrench but it was too big and wouldn't grab it enough.
I then tried multiple belts, all resulted in then stretching or snapping.
I then figured well imma pry against the mount, and got a good two full turns and now it won't even budge, either way.
Been using kroil since the beginning.
Also stuck a screw driver through the side and that helped with the two full turns but now it doesn't.
Right now I'm taking a break but when I go back put I'm going to take the mount off and take it into work and get this damned thing in a vice and get the filter off
describe the direction you turned the filter.example; screw driver pushed through filter from engine side towards passenger fender,i then turned handle from firewall to grill.
I took the mount off, put it in a vice.
Then tried everything. Finally a giant pair of pliers got it done.
Now my fuel filter didn't fit.
I thought I saw someplace that the 3617 and 3417 would fit the 6.9. I want a drain plug on mine since my engine has been sitting for a few years
it probably don't fit on there now because whoever put the last one on either put the wrong filter on or cross threaded the filter on and buggered up the threads in the mount.
The 7.3 mount is further away from the fuel pump (sits up higher to fit the longer filter) so you would also need the longer hard line from the mechanical pump to the filter header. then the longer line from it to the Injection pump as well. If you could get all these parts from a 7.3 donor in a "pull it" yard you should be good to go! Along with the bracket it mounts to as well, or just fab up a couple of extensions to raise it up from the 6.9 mounting holes. if I remember the difference is only like an inch or so. I'm still wanting to do this on mine and still collecting all of the above mentioned pieces...
Thanks for the info, there are no junk yards around here and the ones that are close by (an hour and a half) don't have any idi, or heavy duty trucks for that matter.

YMMV Sean
Hmm..... that's odd, my 87 with a 6.9 had the 6.9 fuel filter head on it and I just put a 7.3 one on and didn't change any lines. I'm not sure if the earlier 6.9's were different or not
I called them, and I don't have the time to go driving around, in December I will, but not right now, and I need this up and running as fast as possible, so mods like that that are not necessary will be post postoned
