Hi I have a 93 single cab f-150, I have alot of rattling on my doors, when I latch them, they have alot of in and out play, but they latch nice, is there supposed to be rubber or somthing on the latch mechanism on the truck, I know some people have like wrapped them in tape and stuff???
There is a striker pin (the piece that looks like a bolt in the body.) It sounds like the plastic bushing is missing from it. Go to the local auto parts store and buy new ones. They will go in and the doors will latch like new again.
Any major auto parts store has a section with misc. parts/pieces. They oftentimes go by the brand name "Help!" They are all in red packaging. Visit your local store and ask where the "Help!" section is. You will find the plastic bushings there. Thats where I got mine for the door as well as the tailgate stricker bolts.
You may have to buy the whole striker pin if they don't have the bushing. If possible take yours and show them. There are different sizes and 1987 up are different than earlier models although they may work. I have used Quest pipe to make bushings but they won't last long. Adjust the bolt to where the latch and door closes without moving it (door) up or down.
