Brake an Clutch petal return spring location

I have a 1948 F3. I am trying to hook up the brake and clutch petal return spings and I am not sure how to hook them up. Pictures would be great. Thanks for your help!

If my memory serves me correctly, my F5 anf F6 only have an external spring on the brake.

The spring hooks on to a tiny hole on the bellhousing and wraps around the passenger facing side (opposite the retainging pin side) of the smooth metal rod that connects the brake pedal linkage to the master cylinder rod.

I may be able to snap you a photo or two tonight.

Assuming the F-3 is the same as the F1, Here is how mine is.

A close-up of the bellhousing.

Another view. The brake pedal pin is not fully inserted in the picture.

Hope this is what you needed.

Thanks guys! That's exactly what I needed. Rich, those are good pictures (worth a thosand words as they say). One more question though, the clutch return spring is in the photo. I can see it connects to the clevis pin on one end and goes toward the crossmember on the other end. Do you have a picture of where the clutch return spring connects to on the crossmember area?

I don't have a good picture of that end. Right now I have the end hooked through a hole in the cross member that aligns with the pin. I saw somewhere where there was a cotter pin through that hole and then the spring is hooked to that. I just need to get a pretty large cotter pin that will not let the loop end through the hole.

Thanks, I will check on that. I am not near the truck but plan on putting the springs on this weekend, so I will bring an assortment of cotter pins with me. The clutch seems fine without it but I already bought the spring and want to do it right. Thanks again.

For your planning pleasure, I measured the hole in the frame. It is 0.33 inches.

I've spent more time than I care to admit looking through the Chassis Catalog for the "right" way to attach the clutch spring. No pictures found. I, therefore, opted to put a nut and bolt in that hole to secure the spring end. Seems to me that the use of a cotter pin could allow the spring end to work itself free over time. Stu

That will definitely keep it in place Stu. I will try the cotter pin and if it is loose at all I will go back to what I have now (the part of the spring under the bolt head through the hole) or copy your idea. Right now the spring is stretched a little to get it on the pin. I think it will pull the cotter pin tight and keep pressure on the spring. The way it is now is how I found it when I started taking the truck apart. Like you I have looked high and low as not everything I have found on my truck was done right. Thanks for the picture.

From my 52 F1. Principle is the same.

Brake spring attaches to the brake pedal and through a hole in the crossmember.

Clutch spring attaches to the clutch pedal and is hooked into a hole in the hogs head. I have a 215 6 cyl, but a flathead 8 should have a similar hole in the general location.

Thanks for the pictures. That is exactly as I have it. I'll leave it alone. I guess even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes!

Well....not exactly.... Your clutch spring is mounted backwards when compared to mine. I used my 51 Panel as a guide, since it appears to have been untouched previously. However, who knows which position is correct....???? As long as it works, leave it alone.

Haha! I saw that and tried to turn it over but couldn't pull it off by hand so here it stays.
