It's funny you're the only one that spouts the 18 quarts rhetoric.

Josh
I have read that before. That's why I asked if one of the techs would chime in.

Uhhhh - I just posted a thread where a Tech "spouted it". More emotion - lol.

It is good to have your first hand information .............. , but the rest is ridiculous.

Done many repairs, but I have posted many times that I have not replaced an engine, and that is why I referenced a respected Tech.

I agree Mike - hopefully the few Techs that remain here will weigh in.

Not true Josh. I have read it in more than one post. That's why I will bow down to any one of the techs if they reply. You can't believe all of the disagreements we get into in the FE forum on a series of engines that are over 40 years old.

I agree that he could easily have read it in one of my posts. In the early days, I posted my references and several Techs agreed w/ the 18 qt number. If it is wrong, I welcome the correction - from a Tech.

That's why I have ignored the FE section of FTE for over a decade.

332-428 Ford FE Engine Forum or http://fepower.net/simplemachinesforum

I suppose your also an expert on the Y block Fords also. You have a lot of knowledge but you seem to be drifting to an end all source and ignoring anyone elses experiences.

Nope, nothing on y-blocks sorry.

I would never ignore Jay Brown, Barry Robotnik, Brett Lykins, Rod Ciotte, or many many more in the FE world.

However, none of them want anything to do with the FTE FE forum, just saying.

Mike - Here are some interesting posts from the past:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/571999-dealer-says-6-0-is-a-18qt-oil-system.html

The thread above is about a dealership stating 18 qts. A post of mine later states I read 17 qts on a Ford site, but Ford closed their system so that was not a "quotable" resource. Many techs began saying 18 qts back then so I had no issue quoting Techs ...... (still don't)

Here is a thread that contains a bill (Ford) for 18 qts on a head gasket job (page 1):

Bullet-Proof Engine - Part II - Diesel Forum - TheDieselStop.com

page 2 contains confirmation of 17-18 from a tech.

plenty of sources to make it credible - who knows how "accurate", but I still tend to believe them ....... hey - maybe the techs/shops in those threads got it from a post of mine lol.

As I posted earlier - I suspect this topic is closely related to some saying 13.5 qts in an oil change and others saying 15 qts .......

Thanks for the post of written information (from Ford) time for an oil change and winter is here. So I followed this thread and learned the old timers here are right I rather argue with a buzz saw (which my wife says I'm perfectly able to...) then make a statement about oil usage. During an oil change there will always be residue we all know that. As to how much to refill after an oil change, I have to admit I buy the amount listed as the engine's capacity put in roughly 80-85% check the dipstick, fill to the full operating line. Cap what's left and never gave it another thought as to how much I really put in vs. listed capacity. I have to rethink my oil change strategies, lol. Thanks again for the page as I now know 15w-40 will cover me throughout the winter months also. Whistle, whistle...here buzz saw, here buzz saw...now where can you be?

Josh
Forgive me some how ended up typing my reply in the middle of Josh's quote.

Well, if ya'll would use good oil you wouldn't have to be replacing those engines all the time.
