Sales breakdown: 6.2 vs. 6.7?
Not sure why I'm curious, but does anyone know how Superduty sales break down with respect to engine choice?
Just guessing, I'd suspect they sell more 6.7s overall. But then again there are probably a lot of 6.2-equipped XLs driving around out there.
What would be real neat to see is 6.2/6.7 percentages broken down by trim level. If anyone has those numbers I'm sure it would be enlightening - thanks in advance!

holy cow, my 2012 F25 XLT with a shade less than a grand of add ons was 36 and change out the door. I will try to remember this post the next time I fill that little piggy up.

When I was looking I couldn't find anything in a higher trim level, lots of XL and XLT work trucks. The only DRW trucks were cab chassis work style ones again lower trim levels. I think what Ford had in mind with the 6.2 was the work truck/fleet market and anything else is just gravy. I also think that they built a very robust motor to stand up in the work/fleet market, I used most of my Ford trucks for work so I know what kind of abuse they can receive. It makes a big difference when you have to rely on your truck to make a living every day, being in the shop is not a option.

I was told by the sales guy that took my special order that his dealership has never seen a Lariat with a 6.2L gas engine. They had one regular cab 2WD XL with the 6.2, everything else was a crew cab diesel.
That said, the dealership I'm going through is located in Silicon Valley, ca where almost all of their Super Duty's get sold to Dads of soccer moms.

I had to drive over 200 miles when I found a dealership with a lariat crew cab with the 6.2L. It was exactly what I wanted. I was unsure about gearing then and of course it had the 3.73, but over all I'm very happy with it. I can't even find a crew cab around here with the 6.2L in it. I just don't see enough "savings" in a diesel to ever justify one and the new 6.2 is awesome and reliable. I think dealers need to open their eyes a little more. Had one telling me that I absolutely didn't want 4.3's and from what I've seen, they get the same mileage towing and maybe 1mpg less empty. I tow most of the time and most of the dealers don't get it. They drive little cars that don't work and only look at things from a mileage standpoint.

I'm curious those who have special ordered their trucks were you able to negotiate a deal on it like you can when the truck is sitting on the lot? I've never special ordered before so I'm not sure what to expect. I would hate to special order a F350 with the 6.2L and pay just as much as I would for a 6.7L off the lot.

It's very easy to negotiate the deal up front. Look up the truck with the options that you want on one of the websites that report dealer invoice prices. Build it out that way, then contact more than one Ford dealer and ask them for a quote. Let them know that you are going to buy the truck equipped that way from somebody regardless, and that you want their lowest quote. Some dealers will blow you off or quote you full MSRP, but most dealers will cut you a pretty good deal, simply because they know if they don't sell it to you, somebody else will.
