Time to pick Rims and tires....

Going through my 79 f150, so far the major things are the 4" suspension lift, and new motor. Id like some Mickey Thompson classic ii's or iii's maybe 17x9 but i like my wheels deep and I've only found some with 4.5 back spacing... anyone ever hear of a place that sells these rims but deep for my truck? Ive tried summit and a few others but no luck. or any suggestions on rims that are close??

And its a 4" lift but should i run 33's or 35's, anyone have some experience in this?

35s with a 4-inch lift look proportionally correct IMO. 33s make it look "tilty".

I have no specific recommendations on wheels... take yer pick.

I had 35" TSLs on my 79' after I lowered it a bit. They were mounted on 15x12" MT Classic II. The wheels were very deep.

There is a reason that the wheel makers match up specific wheel widths and backspacing.....its what fits and works and clears steering components and brakes. FWIW, the 17"s were designed more for the newer gen trucks, many of which i recall call for different backspacing than the late 70's trucks.......you might be better off with 16" wheels

When you go from a 9" wide to a 12" wide wheel, of course its deeper, it would have to be for clearances sake! I seem to recall that many people arent big on the super deep wheels, due to the extra strain on wheel bearings from adding loads farther outboard on the axles.....Take a look at front wheels on a dually, the load is farther inboard and more directly in line with wheel bearings. And a 1/2 ton certainly isnt as strong as a 3/4 or 1 ton axle........Yeah, i know the super wide, tall tires look "Badass, Dude!" but on a 1/2 ton particularly, they may cause you problems

4.5" backspacing should fit pretty good actually unless you want them sticking out really far. May rub on the radius arms at full lock a little but you should be able to adjust the steering stop out just a hair to correct it.
