Max cam spec for my 351w?
Hi,
I recently put this motor together in early spring time, its a fairly simple set up, 1989 351w .o30 over with world windsor jr heads, 1.6 ratio roller rockers and hardend pushrods. In a few weeks i am swappin it to carb... I dont want to hear why i should keep fuel inection ive heard both sides a million times. I have already picked up a weiand stealth intake manifold, hei distributer, carb tank with fuel pump, and 670 truck avenger carb. My question has to do with my vave springs and clearances, id like to swap in this cam here, the lunati voodoo 268. Voodoo Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam & Lifter Kit - Ford 351W & 302 H.O. 268/276 - Lunati Power
However, im unsure as to weather the lift and duration are going to be to much for what im running. Im unsure as to what springs i have in the heads as i had bought the heads used with the springs they had on them. Im not sure if somebody would be ble to i.d. Them as the springs that come on the world windsor jr heads or not as i have several pictures and if they could handle the cam. This motor is in my mud/off road truck and it doestge local mud bgs and inwill have it tacking 6k, no more tho.
Im basically just wonderring if anyone can tell me about what my cam choice limmits are as far as lift and duration. Im not goin with a crazy huge cam for the lopey sound or somethin stupid, but i feel like that voodoo might be perfect if i can run it.
Cam specs are as followed,
Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 268/276
Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 227/233
Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .522/.538
LSA/ICL: 110/106
Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
RPM Range: 1800-6200
Thanks, attatched are some pictures. If they dont work properly ill fix them tmow

Windsor Jr heads don't flow hugh numbers so let me run it through Desktop Dyno to see what cam makes max power at or below 6000rpm. There's only 1 way to know what valve springs you got there.. take a pair off and measure them for pressure at seat height and at coil bind, and that will also tell you how much lift they can handle.

Thanks con, you always have answers. Can i pop the springs out without takin the head off? Is there a special clamp that will use where the head bolts thread into or somethin? Im hopin i can get away with the voodoo, im hopin to order my cam as soon as possible to get all my parts together. Wont be startin the swap till after the last mud bog thats comin up real soon.

You can do the rope trick to keep the valves from falling into the cylinders.
With both valves closed on compression stroke, piston at bdc, take some soft rope and put as much as you can into the cylinder through the spark plug hole. Then gently raise the piston to push the rope into the valves to hold them into the seat.
I've done this a number of times. Works ok.
They make a spring compressor that attaches to the rocker stud, and will compress the spring. Looks like a dog leg thing with a slot for the locks to come out of.

DesktopDyno says that cam will make 330hp at 5000rpm, I tried a bunch of other cams and they all seem to peak at or close to the same rpm which is a good indication that the heads are holding it back. Still that's a big step up from a stock motor.
Compressed air also works to keep the valves in place while you remove the springs. But you need to check for P-V clearance so the heads have to come off anyway.
