460 to a 300 swap to a T 19 transmission questions

Planing a 460 swap to a 300 and cold use some help. My 1985, f250, 4x4, T19 came with a diesel engine the previous owner swapped a 460 into the truck and I would like to replace it with a pre 1982 300 4.9l. Would the 300 bolt up or will I need a specific bell housing? Thanks for any information on the subject.

I don't believe the 300 I6 was ever used with the T19 and therefore no bellhousings (I couldn't find any information on it)...you may have to swap the entire transmission out.

You need a Windsor pattern bell and new engine perches.

The transmission side of the bellhousing is the same for all those gearboxes.

Nothing special, but the 460 pattern will not fit.
That is a desirable bellhousing though.
You can likely sell it for $75-100.

And it will need to be a hydraulic version bell housing, not an earlier mechanical version.

I couldn't find anything on it either. On my 1985 cj7 I used a novak adapter for the transmission to transfer case and sent the 258 i6 bell housing in for modification. The transmission I put into the jeep was a Muncie 465. It was well worth the money and time. Thanks for your help slashfan.

ALL the post 1964 ford gearboxes have the same "butterfly" bolt pattern.
There is nothing specific about the T-19

Just because the I-6 came with New Process or T-18 boxes doesn't mean it won't fit.

Windsor bolt pattern

Jim I am new to the world of building a ford. So please bear with me. Windsor was a v eight? Right? I am a little confused. How would a Windsor bell housing bolt to a 300 4.9l block? Sorry for the stupid question.

The bell housing that you need fits all the smallblock V8 engines & the 300 I6 (same bolt pattern), but not big block or diesel engines.
Any of the OEM manual transmissions will fit that bell housing, but in 1983 both mechanical & hydraulic clutches were used......later were hydraulic only.

The 300 engine shares a bellhousing pattern with the Windsor series engines.

This simplifies things with automatics and the ZF5 speeds that don't have a removable bellhousing.

Any hydraulic bellhousing from a 302, 351, or 300 will fit your new engine and your old T-19 gearbox.

Ken do you know what years and out of what vehicles would have that bell hydraulic release bell housing?

I fat fingered the keyboard.
Edited my post...

Hydraulic clutches came out in '83 or '84.

Any 84-86 smallblock V8/I6 trucks; & I assume 87> if 4-speed manual trans equipped; & as mentioned above, some 83 trucks had hydraulic clutches too.

Please correct me if I am wrong. I understand that 1982 the inline 300 went metric would that effect the bolt up? I am in contact with 3 people with 300 4.9l for sale. A 78, 79 and a 81.
