That's totally awesome! Wreckers have a special place in my heart, especially old Holmes units. I spent quite a few years driving around and working a 500 twin boom before the wheel lift days. Keep us posted on your progress.

Looks great. A Holmes 400 is a really good rig to mount on the back of your 51. I'll be looking for one myself down the road to complete one of my projects. Stu

I love the bed on the Ford. I hope ya can just move the crane over to it.
It could work.

The plan is to make the wrecker a modular unit that would slide into/onto the existing flat deck. Need to figure out how to marry the wrecker PTO to the MH PTO. Probably won't get to it until the spring. My garage isn't big enough for the F5 and it's winter here now. I'll certainly keep you posted!

That's an interesting idea. I like it, especially since the flat bed that currently on your truck is very interesting and has a great look to it.

The long winter months should give you plenty of planning time

A buddy found the truck for me...$500

The wrecker and truck are supposed to be in good working condition. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Still need to figure out how the wrecker operates!

That part should be easy. Pull the PTO cable in the cab, which "turns on" the winch, then the lever sticking up by the tailboard will engage the winch clutch to operate it up and down. Be firm with the lever when engaging, don't grind the gears.

Okay but what are the slots in the side supports that the 2 aux cables attach to? Something to do with raising and lowering the boom and what is the hole in the plate right before the boom pulley for?
