Detroit 6-71 in C or F600?

Young Fire Apparatus of the Buffalo area used 6V71s in the C series chassis in the '70s. But with your inline 6 I think if you moved the cab back a foot or so, you'd build a neat rat rod .
Allison MT 644 or 654 would be the trans to mate up. Or a 9 or 10 speed manual.

If so, in the absence of an auxiliary transmission, you'll likely need a final drive ratio of someplace around 3.00:1 to make it to 60 mph at 1500 RPM.
(with tires that are approx 40" dia.........and around 500 rear wheel RPM per mile)
You can calculate ratios below....

The Internationals used to put them part way back in the cab with a dog house. Most of those had bucket seats, and the shifter was almost at the back of the cab.
Nothing like a two stroke diesel screaming!
You could "bang gears" and sound like you were really doing something, only to see someone walking beside of you !
