Positive for Glycol

My 2008 F350 tested positive for glycol over a 2000 mile interval. After first test coolant system was pressure tested and was found to be sound. After first test shop suggested adding qt ATF drive 2000k, change the oil and filter and test again. 2nd test positive for glycol.

I was wondering what the most likely cause of antifreeze getting into the oil is?

Head gaskets, oil cooler, timing cover??? What else???

The truck has the DPF and Regeneration removed. 105,000 miles. Seems to run fine.

Can anyone recommend a diesel shop in the BC Lower Mainland or WA Pacific North West?

thanks
paul

Front cover cavitation comes to mind.

I take no puking at the degas bottle and no sweet smell at the tail pipes?

degas bottle is what a coolant overflow bottle is on a gas motor.

It is called a degas bottle on a diesel because it is part of the coolant system..not an overflow.

Behind the water pump is a cover..that cover.

OK then re the degas bottle don't see any movement in coolant when truck is running and up to temp.

The cavitation hole in the picture might explain why I had to add coolant every morning during my trip down south and back towing a TT. Anywhere from a quart to two quarts. Not sure from the picture where exactly this is but thinking it's not a job for an amateur to pull apart? Would this be fair assessment? Also thinking this job would be a lot cheaper than new head gaskets?

Thanks for your help on this much appreciated.

Paul, certainly not a job for the novice. My suggestion would be a diagnostic of the cooling system to see where the leak is at.

Front cover is mere speculation at this point. It could be something else.

I would invest in a diagnostic at the service dept that has a certified diesel tech that works on the 6.4. That will cost you a bit but will be worth it.

Thanks again - it all boils down to $$$ - pisses me off as I had this truck checked out, specifically the engine at a Ford dealer before I bought it and now this. On the bright side I guess I'll have a better truck after all is said and done
