Morning everyone. I hope you had a great weekend. Mine has been spent under the covers in a blacked out room dealing with a migraine. I don't know how long I will be out of my hole but I have to try to get my homework caught up.

Ok guys,

Dumb question for ya...

I need some mechanical help on my Toyota.

Do I need any speciatyl tools to change out the brake pads?
I guess I have to do it myself, since Jimmy drove it until they were metal to metal & doesn't seem to have the time to be bothered with it.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Aside from metric tools probably not, but you'll need to take the rotors to be turned, so may be a a big azz socket to get them off...

You will probably also want a caliper depressing tool so you can get the new pads on the caliper. Autozone has them and will loan it to you.

A 6" C clamp works great for that, I didn't think of that being a special tool, but I suppose it might not be in everyone's toolbox.

Wow...that's cool! A specialty tool & a make shift specialty tool. I have a 6" C clamp too! Maybe today if it warms up some more I'll try to tackle the brake job. Atleast I have Olfthfl for transportation if I can't figure it out. LOL!

Donna, all you really need is a basic set of hand tools in metric and a C-clamp to do breaks on your 4 Runner. Only other thing I can think of would be determined by you setup. sometimes they have a screw holding the rotor in place. These tend to corrode and stick, so you might also need and impact screw driver. it's a spring loaded screw driver you hit with hammer.

I believe it's a pin, but I'll keep that in mind. I'll have spray lube handy just in case. Hmm...maybe not - probably not a good idea to use that huh? I wanna be sure I'll be able to stop. LOL!

Problem with most modern 6" C clamps is they are cheaply made and I have ruined many of made in china C clamps. Plus if it is dual or 4 piston caliper, C clamp doesn't work the greatest....
