Aint no way any smog tech can tell if injectors have been done.

To the OP, no mod that can give you any appreciable power gains are allowed. It's more of, what mods can you get by with, while still not producing smoke that will cause you to fail.

This. Smoke, and obvious mods are what they look for.

When I moved here from the Great State of Colorado, all I was subjected to was a visual inspection. Most garages know a diesel from a bicycle, so they did were lost. I had a 6637 air filter, which I got nailed for, had to buy a wrecker air box and install it.

They don't do emissions or anything. Colorado puts you on a dyno and checks opacity. I paid my inspection fee, when tot DMV paid some other ransom and got my Cali title.

Easy as pie. Didn't even need to get another inspection upon renewal. Same with my 1983 300sdl.

As has been mentioned only a visual inspection, so far. I have and AFE filter and intake manifold both of which are CARB approved. Some inspection stations may give you some guff but they provide a sticker with the appropriate "code" numbers. However, some counties have more restrictive requirements than some others. I believe that Modoc county is still smog check free. I think there are a couple of chips out there that are CARB approved but not sure on that.

I'm in Santa Clara County (SF Bay Area), they wanted to have the under hood bits look the same as on the drawings. For $75.00 I got what I needed and passed. Frankly I'm not hauling 26' enclosed car trailers anymore up and down mountain passes so having the oem air box is much quieter. It'll stay there, I might put 15k on the truck a year now.

Because they were uneducated.

All (repeat: ALL) aftermarket intake filter setups are legal per CARB.

It doesn't matter what they wanted, it matters what CARB say's you can have.

Let me reiterate that.

THEY ARE ALL LEGAL. I know its hard for people to understand that sometimes.

Some filters come with CARB numbers, this is to regulate the companies and make them pay taxes, etc not to ding the end user. CA has made all intakes legal, even the 6637 which obviously doesnt have a CARB EO number.

i cant see ANY "mods" being acceptable. I live in so-cal, but got lucky with my truck purchase..(from a smog place owners' family). So, my trucks' WELL KNOWN there, by P.O. I got away with, not only no fuse in the corrective spot to power the OBD unit, but i got wvo system as well...

Now, you can do them preventative by-pass units, whether their DIY'ers or kits from companies....Cant see where they'll complain about them.

38R closely resembles the OEM Garrett. Smog tech has to know the differences between the two. Better injectors to provide more power, especially when coupled with a 38R will make you smile.

I have no problems passing smog on my rigs, but I also have a smart tech who understands the reason for smog checks on diesels is to make sure they don't blow black.
