77 F250 4x4 M/T steering column help

It's finally time to rebuild my steering column and replace the steering shaft - too much play. I've scoured the the forum and have found bits and pieces of information, but nothing specific (e.g. a drawing) to my particular setup (please correct me if I'm wrong). The column bearings need replaced and especially the large plastic bushing on the end of the column as it moves considerably. Looks like a Borgeson lower shaft is the way to go from what I read. Any advice would be appreciated before I start tearing it apart. Thanks!

Here is an exploded illustration of the steering column from the Ford parts catalog.
The title says 73-75 but it also covers the 77.

Get what you can for the inside the dash columb stuff, and the Borgerson will make it easy to fix the eng compartment part of it.

How is your steering box play....ready for a Redhead? Here is another PDF just in case.

steering column

the plastic bearing retainer is history,Jeffs Bronco G has this steel lower bearing, can be welded or screwed,,,,You pretty much can get everything for your column rebuild from the Bronco G,,,the lower bearing worked just fine in my 75 4x manual tranny,,,,I beleive I got everything from the graveyard and West Coast Broncos,,,,,The bearing that presses into the plastic retainer tends ride out,,,I really like the lower steel bearing,,better design

Thanks for the fast responses everyone - very helpful. My steering box seems pretty tight although once I fix the column and shaft it might be next!

Another question - any recommendation on where to buy the turn signal switch? I'm getting tired of flipping the lever after every turn. I see many places offer them in both aftermarket and OEM varieties.

I would recommend genuine Ford. The part number you're looking for is D3TZ-13341-A.
I located 18 still available at various Ford dealers. If you want some names let me know.
If the switch is working okay and all thats wrong is it won't cancel on its own then you could probably get away with just replacing this piece. Its not a Ford part but better than replacing the whole switch. It's available from Dorman and can usually be found in the "HELP" section at the parts store. Its Dorman p/n 49301. Rockauto has them for $10.67

Thanks! I didn't know that was an option. Sounds like a great (and inexpensive) way to go.
