Transmission cross member - where to get?

I need a new transmission crossmember for my 93 F150XLT 5.0 E40D. They appear to be discontinued from the dealer. I'm reluctant to go to a salvage yard up here in the northeast because the ones there are probably no better then the one on my truck. Does anyone know where I can get an aftermarket one?

I'm not sure if this is the right part... but what you're describing sounds like part #7 on Page 42 of the LMC catalog ("Transmission Mount").

What I'm looking for is the metal support bracket/mount that goes from the left frame rail to the right frame rail. Part #7 would mount onto the part that I am looking for.

Gotcha. You're not going to be able to get that part except from a JY. Or, you may be able to convince a metal shop to fabricate you one.

A lot of the trucks from New England (the ones I've seen the underneath of at the pick-and-pull) seem to have pretty solid transmission cross members. Most of the rot that I see in the cross members, are the ones aft of the rear diff.

Mine is rusted completely through on the driver's side. I bought this truck new and I would like to keep it. It has less than 80k on it. I seldom drive it but I don't like to be without a truck. I found this rusted crossmember when I was changing the rusted brake lines for the second time. The last time I changed the brake lines was in 2002. I also need to change the front leaf spring hangers. I've already replaced the shackles on both sides. It looks like the power steering lines should be replaced also. The joys of owning an old truck.

It might be time to look up some Arizona junkyards on-line and drop 'em an E-mail. West Texas, southern New Mexico, and southern California could work too.

You might try : Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market and search further south or southwest, you should be able to find one that way, You can set up the search to any area in the country.. and shipping shouldn't be too bad...

I found a crossmember using car-part.com in Tennessee for $25 plus $25 shipping. It should be here sometime this week.

Thanks for all the help.

I finally got around to changing my crossmember. It took about 4 hours getting the rusted rounded off nuts off. Here's some pictures of the old crossmember.

Tomorrow I'll start on changing the front leaf spring hangers.
