Replace door & remove + install harness 97 F250 Diesel
Hi,
My dad is buying a new door for his F250 truck. It was damaged and then the cable broke preventing the door from being opened. He took the panel off and we don't know how to remove the harness from the old door to the new door. Here are the instructions I pulled from ChiltonDIY. Does this sound complete to you guys or is there another way that may be better?
To Remove
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove any trim necessary to access the electrical connector inside the front door.
3. Detach the electrical connector inside the door and pull the wire harness out of the front door.
4. Matchmark the hinge-to-body and hinge-to-door locations.
5. Support the door either on jackstands or have somebody hold it for you.
6. Remove the lower hinge-to-door bolts.
7. Remove the upper hinge-to-door bolts and lift the door off the hinges.
8. If the hinges are being replaced, remove them from the door pillar.
To install:
1. Install the door and hinges with the bolts finger tight.
2. Adjust the door and tighten the hinge bolts to 19-25 ft. lbs. (26-35 Nm).
3. Install the wire harness into the door opening.
4. Attach the electrical connector inside the front door.
5. Install any trim removed from the door.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
Thanks for any help or feedback. I really appreciate you all more then you know.

One thing I ran into is the rubber cover that runs between the door and the cab. The holes in the door changed over the years. I had to replace the wiring harness in my 93 and the harness I got was a 95. The 95 has a larger hole than the 93. You might want to check the opening on the door you are using to make sure they are the same. If not just unpin the plugs on the end of the harness that goes in to the cab and change the rubber piece.
