ALBUQ F-1 thanks for your reply.

The information I have Is.. the title says the truck is a 1950 F5..other information I have found is ford would sell just the cab and frame, running gear and then you would build what you wanted on the truck...I have looked on line for ford Metro van and have not found any that look like the one I have, running gear is a 254 six with a 3 speed on

Thanks

Yes it does appear to be a Parcel Delivery, but they didn't use the 'P' parcel designation until 1953. The serial # should have a J in it, probably more like 98MJH, if so, it is actually an F6 model, as that was the only model with the 254. If it is an F5 or F6, it would have 20" wheels.

Actually, several years ago I parted out a 52 parcel delivery and the serial number started with a P. It was P4.

Maybe it was '51, when the changed the serial numbers. I know that from 48-50 they used J in the serial number, but the trucks were still lettered F series. I couldn't find the P designation before 1953, in the parts listings they still were listed as J until '56.

I am going to use it as a tow vehicle for my vintage trailers, would like to lower it, new paint and wheels, not sure on the drive train......

Be aware that your truck has what are known as "widowmaker" wheels, a two-piece design that is prone to failure. Most shops will not even look at them when it's time for new tires, and for good reasons. Read more here:

Vanette & P Series Parcel Delivery: Ford sold either the rolling chassis, or rolling chassis with front sheet metal, dash, steering column, drivers seat, passenger seat optional.

Myriad body makers installed whatever body the customer wanted. Today, most of the 'specific to these truck only' parts are very hard to find.

Right: 1948/56 truck parts catalog doesn't list 1948/50 series codes. Notice "J" is the parts catalog symbol for F-3 Parcel Delivery.

When you look up parts for 1948/56 trucks, there's no (for examples) 1948/52 F1 or 1953/56 F100 listed, the symbol C is used instead.

btw: 1948 Oldsmopiles, mom had a Sedanet, dad had a sedan (like yours), grandma had a new for 1948 98 convertible...all straight 8's. Grandpa was an Olds dealer.

thanks for the information I am fully aware of the problem with widowmaker wheels as I used to work at a tire place back in the late 60s and have seen what the rim will do .

thanks to Numberdummy I was able to find a ad that shows the parcel delivery and explains how you could order the cab and have your own body installed
