My Ranger i just bought has a Northwoods PKG on it whats that mean. Its a 1996 with the 3.0L in it...Thanks

I've seen Ford lump several popular options into a "package" and offer the package at a much lower price than if you had bought the options individually. Also, some of these packages are offered to buyers based on geographical location/region. Chances are you got one of them. There is another user in these forums that you may want to contact, he goes by 1956MarkII. He's a Ford salesman in NY and he may be able to answer exactly what was in the package.

 

Hey, I appreciate the compliment, but I don't know EVERYTHING! Actually, I've never heard of a Northwoods package, except for one they offered on the Windstar ion '97-'98. As CowboyBilly said, Ford will often put together an appearance package for certain areas to get sales moving on a particular vehicle that may not be selling very well there. Does your truck have any striping/ fog lights/ speecial floor mats/ seat logo, anything like that? Sometimes, too, they would offer a special color(s) with this package that was not available on any other Ranger. You know, Forest Green from the Explorer line that was never offered on any other Ranger, stuff like that. Because these packages were regionally based, you never see them in a catalog or brochure.

 

I'm pretty sure the Northwoods Edition trucks were only available in Wisconsin and Minnesota...and maybe in the UP. I seem to remember Ray Nitschke doing the TV commercials for them years ago.

From the ones I have seen around, Mark is right on the money - it was basically an appearance package, decals, etc. I think they might've had a plug-in block heater also, but I'm not positive on that.

 

I just took ownership of a '96 F-150/XLT mid-January of '04. It has FWD, extended cab w/automatic on the column and I haven't look to see what size engine is in it. The only thing I noticed different about it was little signs under the 'XLT' say 'Northwoods Edition', one on the dash telling me it is #18 of 2500 made and 'northwoods' floormats. It is a portifino(?) blue with silver paint along the bottom with a pin-stripe separating the two colors. At the moment, the engine has 282,000+ on it and I'm hoping to get at least another 50,000 out of her. I'd be happy if anyone else has more info on the 'Northwoods'.

Sorry, I forgot to mention this truck was purchased in Southwestern Michigan, has a gas engine with dual tanks, power-locks, power-windows and was used by a small company for the last eight years to transport their electrician and his equipment and parts to various work sites.
I don't know about you, but my work trucks were ususally of the 'Econo-line' models. Plastic seat covers, rubber floor mats, a FM radio (if I was lucky) and 2-60 airconditioning.

I'm from Wisconsin and have a friend that has a Northwoods edition Ford. Like 1956MarkII said, it seems to be a graphics package with, maybe, an engine block, battery heater and heavy duty battery included. With -20 degrees outside today that stuff sure comes in handy!
