Ford 6.0 revs but won't move

I've got a 6.0 with 42k miles and i was going down the road and went to accelerate and it revved to 4000 RPMs and didn't increase speed at all. I stopped and restarted it and tried again and same problem. What did I do?

Put it in neutral maybe. What year is your truck, thats some awfully low mileage you got there. Also guessing auto, but should let us know whether it is auto or manual.

2006 automatic. Neutral does nothing.

Check your transmission fluid level. If it has fluid, how does it look an smell?

I checked it yesterday. It looked fine (no garbage or pieces of metal which would show that something broke inside) and it wasn't discolored. I just had all my fluids checked and filled about 1200 miles ago.

Sounds like a bad tranny. Get it checked for codes.

Recheck the fluid and did they use the correct fluid for the ford torqueshift transmission?

Try shifting manually. There is a diode you can bypass that sometimes allows your trans to work in manual gear selection

That never occurred to me. Maybe they didn't put the right fluid in. My mechanic can rebuild the tranny for $3,000. Is that reasonable? And how long do you think it'll take? A couple days?

You would have to ask your mechanic...but a proper diagnosis is in order before a rebuild.
