I just purchased and had delivered from the weeds in Colorado a 59 F 100 4x4.
The body is in incredible shape for a neglected 55 yr old truck and after just an hour on Ohio soil it was purring like a kitten.
running the VIN i notice its a f10 telling me it was manufactured in Kanas as a 2wd truck and somewhere along the line had a 4x4 conversion .
After crawling all over and under this thing I came to the conclusion it was professionally done so my question is how do i tell what I have here as far as the 4x4 unit is concerned ?
If a anyone has any info on these units i'd like hearing from you.
the 4x4 seems to be working but because of other issues with the truck I really havn't had a chance to take it out and drive it yet.

Take some pics.....we want to see the truck. We're junkies like that.

Take some good pics of the front end. This can help identify the conversion kit. NAPCO and Marmington-Herrington (I think) are two conversion companies. If you get the underside good and clean you might find tags on the diff and transfer case.

You can also post the whole VIN and get help decoding the whole thing. Here's the link to my decode thread.

x2 on the pics! Is it a factory 4x4? Ive only seen the f250s in factory 4x4.

1959/60: SERIES code, first 3 digits of the VIN: F10 & F25 refer to both 2WD & 4WD

The MODEL code (see pic) stamped on the Rating Plate decodes to either 2WD or 4WD.

6th digit of the VIN is the Assembly Plant code: K = Kansas City MO

1959: First year that FoMoCo offered factory installed 4WD for F100's and F250's.

1959: FoMoCo lumped the F100/250 2WD & 4WD production figures together, so there's no way to know how many of each were assembled.

1960 is a different story, production figures are available for both F100/250 2WD & 4WD

I'll try to get pics on here tonight .I guess i misunderstood the vin code chart I had. The one I have shows in 59 the f 10 meant it was a 2wd and the f 11 indicated it was manufactured as a 4x4.
when i post the pics i'll include a pic of the VIN on the glove box door.
Always fun to hear from guys that have a true knowledge of these old rides.
Tho i've brought back to life several older vehicles this is my 1st old ford truck.

I guess my biggest question with this truck is if its a factory 4x4 or an aftermarket conversion
On the transfer case it has a Dana (spicer) tag and it reads

serial #T207666
B/M 300205 3
Model 24
It also looks as if both driveshafts are the same length.I read someplace that meant something......thanks again

5,600 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

Its nice to know its a factory 4x4 especially since it being the first year ford offered that option. but even had it not been factory I wouldn't have been to disappointed because its still a darn cool old truck worthy of some love.
After spending the last 5 evenings on it if it weren't for a charging issue it would be road worthy at this point,I'm pretty happy with that fact considering
It had been sitting outside in the weeds for the past 4 yrs.
I do have one last question ..this truck has a small holley 2bbl carb on it ...
Am I right to assume the carb has been replaced ?
Other than the set of white spoke wagon wheels someone put on it the best i can tell its 100 % original.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Still struggling to upload pics...(not suprising.lol) following your instructions and after clicking on pictures and albums I don't see the "upload pictures" tab but reading in the notes an that page that I see I have to be a member for 10 days (its only been 7) is that the reason I can't upload pics ?

Many post pic's on there first post and not being a supporter. So no I don't think there is a time limit unless it is a very new thing.
