My advice is to stay with what you have. You can get a rebuilt kid and a bucket of carb solvent for about $50 and you avoid potential linkage problems. The OEM carbs are simple and serve well in workhorse applications.
Personally, I prefer the Autolite 2100. I have one on a 351W in a car that I used as a daily driver for 17 years. That carb was virtually trouble free all that time. I agree it's a very nice carb to adjust. I still have the car, but I don't drive it daily anymore. It still starts and runs really nice though.
My guess is that your 351M came with an Autolite/Motorcraft 2150, unless you or someone else put a 2100 on it when you/they put it in your truck.
2X everyone above. Unless your 351M been rebuilt with better flowing heads, cam, and more compression that smogger motor can't take much more carb anyways. Because of government AVERAGE smog standards Ford had to hit the 351M/400 engines hard with smog equipment. Keep it reliable.
The engine was said to have maybe had a cam but nothing else to my knowledge. Thinking about trying to nip it all in the bud and buy a new holly or Edelbrock.

Carefull there cowboy. The compression ratio was something like 8.7:1 from the factory. Heads with lousy ports. If a Holley make it a small one OR a vacuum secondary one with a quick change secondary diaphragm housing cap. You'll have to swap out for stronger springs 'till ya get rid of the pedal to the metal bog.

Oh I know. But if OP talking about "Holley" and an "intake" I assumed he meant jumping to a 4 BBL. Why would anybody put a high performance 4BBL intake and then adapt a 2BBL to it?
