I haven't done my 95 yet but I did do my 00 a few months ago. It sucks spending that much time on top of the engine. Invest in a top side creeper before you start. Pull the rockers and injectors first so you have less stuff to fight.
The ARP studs I used said to just put them in hand tight but due to being able to clean the holes I had to use a 1/4 drive ratchet to bottom out the studs. That's really important for the short studs that go under the injector hold down brackets. The brackets did rub the studs during installation I gave mine a slight tap to get them into place, others have ground the bracket for clearance.
Get new seals for the valve stems, you will have to pull the old ones to get the micrometer on anyways. I used a long #1 phillips screwdriver into the injector tip hole to find TDC. You will need to keep a hand on the screw driver while rotating the engine so it doesn't bind. Get the Ford tool for compressing valve springs if you can find it. Makes reaching all the springs easy.
His name is Roland, a really, really nice guy. Why pay a $130 for something you'll use once. Unless you actually remove the motor mounts I don't see how you would get them without that tool. Maybe you plan on pulling the motor, IDK.
Yeah Gabe, Ford makes that tool, only $450. Roland made his by copying it.
you dont have to remove motor to do springs i just went to autozone and got the valve spring compressor tool and modified it to work got all of em easily. hardest part was miccing each one
Most people don't have a couple of hours to spend building a tool. I've built 2 special tools to work on these engines if anyone wants to borrow them. I made an ipr wrench and a wrench to get the lower driver's side turbine inlet flange nut.
Subscribing. Darin, if you need valve stem seals let me know. I think I have a set of them in a bunch of PSD stuff I bought from a guy. They're yours for the ride if you want them. I think there is a full set still in the bag.
Thanks Nate, I appreciate it, but I have some ordered so I should be good. Over the last 3 days I got so much more crap piled on me I have no idea when I will get this done. Some paying crap, some not. These things gotta be done before the snow falls too. The truck doesn't.
IIRC on Riffraff you can get the studs for about $570 and the springs for $85 and the shims are like $7. I think the pushrods on Riffraff are about $220.
So all that wrapped up in a box with yellow tape and tax to your door.. Close to $1000?
You could probably find options to knock a bit off at diff sites. Im just quoting Riffraff prices. The money you'd save doing individually at other places probably would be lost in shipping individually. lol
All of my nice new parts are here. It's probably gonna be a month or so before I can get to putting them in, but they're here anyway.
Also, I stopped at Napa yesterday and they are getting me some shaeffers oil. They have it at another store, so it will be there today. I'm going in to pick up my granddaughter in a few hours so I'll grab it then.
