i just bought a 59 f150. ive always wanted to build an idi but thought it wouldnt be a good idea in my 78 half ton..... so thats got a turbocharged 300 inline six in the making. anyways i want some advise for a reliable streetable mild performance idi say 250-300 hp. suggestions for ip and turbo for this power level?

As far as engine mods, you would want to install head studs. Besides that I would think the engine would be good to go. As far as power, you would just need a hopped up pump to supply the fuel. I would think an inter cooler and maybe a cam. Then just find a turbo with the right compressor map for what you want. There are forum members who offer all different types of upgrades for the stock/Banks/Hypermax kits.

Nice truck. All done up it could be sweet looking!!

Definately gunna start a build thread when I tear into this project. I'm not 100% sure on alot of things still, what color paint, flatbed, pick up bed, ect. The idi is going to get a full rebuild, lowered compression, studs, maybe o rings? A cam, maybe some head porting. I plan to fab up the turbo piping, it'll be inter cooled for sure.

With the Cam I wouldn't think that you would need to do anything else to lower the compression. The cam will lower your cranking compression enough for fairly high boost levels.

That truck is beast... the late 50s body style is probably the toughest looking ford built IMO

Send Justin at idiperformance.com an email and he can hook you up. 110cc pump and A3K would be perfect for what youre looking to do. Definately going to want an intercooler for what youre planning as well.

For engine mods, studs are given, but i also would recommend a cam/lifters/valve spring package. If your plan is to tear it down, i would mill some off the pistons, if your plan isnt to tear it down, dont worry about it. Having the bottom end balanced does wonders for these things.

R&d idi performance can get you all the fuel you could ever need. Turbo should be an ats ak3. Read racinndrummins thread( s )

30s I wouldnt push em harder than that without dropping compression. However thats a 185cc pump makin just under 500whp

The idi doesnt need alot of boost to make big power due to being NA they breath really well. However that is a major reason the cam needs reground, its a NA cam.

I would say 300whp is fine on stock compression.
