I have a 2007 F-150 4.2L manual and I will hear a beep from the dash and the digits will disappear from the mileage display. I ran the truck low on gas to see if the low fuel would light up on the display but all I got was the beep.

I can remove my battery cable and the display will work normally until I hear a beep from the dash for no apparent reason and the digits will be gone.

There are no codes on the computer and both the mileage and trip counter do not work unless I remove the battery cables and the amount time they work after that depends on when I get the beep sound and the display goes blank, it doesn't go out it is still backlight but no black digits.

At night with the head lights on the display is lit up but shows no digits.

Any ideas on what might be causing this issue?

 

Might be a loose connection. You could try the old "take it apart and put it back together" trick to the cluster and see if it goes away. When you are in there keep your eyes peeled for any problems, and unplug and plug in all the connectors.
