You need to unplug the spout connector first and *then* set the distributor to 12°

On your 250, the computer in the DS kick panel is damaged.
Either get a refurbished one or open it up and see if it is just the capacitors, which you can replace for about $5 if you have skill with a soldering iron.

But I do not know what the spout connector is...

It seems to lack power compared to what a 460 should have. I currently have the timing set at 12 degrees. When I unplug the connector that runs to the distributer, the engine dies. I have a F250 also with the 460 and when I unplugged that truck to adjust the timing it runs without that connector. What am I doing wrong? Please assist.
Sounds like you unplugged the TFI module instead of the spout connector. Heres a picture of both, your spout connector might be up by the firewall instead of close to the distributer but don't quote me. Either way, it should be the same looking spout connector

Thank you for this. This is a great idea. I will have to do this!!

1995 f 250 2x4 with 460

I replaced the distributor the person stated he didn't time it very well only replacing it on the mark he had set. Truck starts and runs great except it seems to miss when getting on the throttle a little but it runs smoothly after that.is the off timing causing this?
