Underbed spare tire carrier - 55

Looking for an underbed spare tire carrier for a 55. Catalogs usually have in bed units and I don't want more holes in the bed. I have found a 48 unit - will it fit a 55?

If original isn't a concern, try a cable system from a late model mini van or truck. Mine is from an aerostar van, winds up and down with a cable.

Here is an article on FTE about a Windstar winch type carrier. The pictures aren't that great, but you will get the idea:

And here are a couple of pictures of a '55 with the cable spare carrier from a '97 F150. This install was done by FTE member larryb346.

I'm not familiar with how a ranger carrier looks or is set up, but will try to connect with one. Thanks. $20 sure sounds good from that standpoint.

The correct 53-56 f100 under bed carriers are very hard to find, and even more hard to find is the "J" hook and cast wing nut

Look here its got it all

I appreciate the ebay link. I do have the **** bolt, but that is all. Have seen j-bolt at other places - but not full system. It is very true that it is a hard find - guess that goes with the price wanted on ebay. Do you know how far off the fit would be for a 48 -52 bottom carrier bar for a 55? . I have a price of about $80 for the 48-52 bar and $20 for the j-bolt. Thanks greatly for the research help.

That set up is very rusty but complete. It even has the cross piece that some trucks are missing.

I welded a length of 1/2" allthread down from one of my rear crossmembers. The spacesaver tire fits tween my exhaust pipes.

I worked out a deal with the ebay listing - thanks bigwin for the link. Got it today and it fits nicely. Only one problem - the spare tire is larger than the original spare so the j-bolt is a little too short to hold everything securely. I will have to work something out on that. Anyone know of a supplier with a longer than original j-bolt? If not, I guess a bolt fabrication will be needed.
