Does anyone here have a box truck?

It seems every truck is either a pickup, flatbed or even a tow truck. Anyone have a box truck? Not a van or depot truck but a conventional cabbed truck with a vintage correct box on the back. I would really like one, not that I have the money to buy one but I like the way the look but haven't seen any on the street or at shows. If I could find a nice box I'd switch it with the flatbed on my F-4 just to be different.

Like this toy truck:

Agreed Bob... that would be cool! Probably alot of the boxes didn't survive but I'll keep my eye open for you.

Thanks Rob. Remember, you were the one who found that really nice flatbed for me. I wouldn't get rid of that one unless I could trade it for an equally nice vintage box.

Hope ya find a box. I think they look better than a flatbed. And in the wet country I have always lived in, a box is way more practical for most use.

I know of a couple of spots that I'll look in but I'd be surprised if anything in this area is in very good condition. What you need to do is have Ross source you one in NM and bring it with him to Truckfest.

Not a Ford but a few years back at a local farm show they had some of the Historic Truck group show up. One had a class 8 box truck converted with motorhome like facilities built in. That thing was cool. Hmmmmmmmmmm, I do like that idea, Bob.

I don't think the boxes were make specific, I think whatever box was available was installed on any make truck. I think there were a few companies that made them them for the different truck manufacturers. I don't remember any members posting pictures of there own trucks with the box. For what I'd haul on/in my F-4 the box would be a lot more handy than an open bed.

I was gonna say, look in the Hildy's. Beat me to it. I'd like to find something different than the norm, too. I'd like a big box, or even a "Ma Bell" box. Railway Express isn't out of the question, either. I like the "oddballs".

I kinda wish I had my dumptruck back.

Are we seeing a new plan for your latest project hatching?

Just remember - Whatever is behind the cab of a Truck is only useful until you need something else.
You got a pickup you need a flatbed, you got a flatbed you need a box, you got a box you need a dump - Those damn Trucks are never satisfied

box

You might be able to find a U-haul box or something similar that will fit.

Sincerely,

Oscar

Not a defined plan but an idea . Right now the new truck is sitting without bed,,,,,,,,,so........... Finding a nine or ten foot period correct box may be a bit difficult. I suspect there are a few still out there in service as chicken coops, storage sheds, etc.

Sounds like my buddy Dave's longnose Brockway. Did it have a mural on the side?

Keep in mind the frame width standard for most boxes are set at 34", even today. So finding a modern box that can be redone that will fit shouldn't be a problem. It's nice that the industry kept it the same width all these years.
