Be careful not to get a gasoline shower and then have someone spark you by calling your cellphone. -Mr.Wilson

Stock 53-55 gas tanks have a drain plug........IF you can get that out you might be able to flush it out.

If your tank was cruddy enough that the fuel line was plugged, you'll need more that a bit of water to clean the tank. Consider having a radiator shop boil it or at least use a tank clean/seal kit. Either way, you'll want to completely dry the tank before reuse. Forcing air into it with a fan and some make-shift duct work should do the trick.

Good luck.

Write this down - after you are done hoping that your fuel line isn't a problem, you'll still need to clean or replace it. Crud isn't smart enough to only plug the inlet.

IMHO an all rubber gas line would be a mistake . Our new gas eats neoprene .

Fortyniner's got it right. If you're having crud problems don't try to fix it piece by piece. Pull the tank, clean it with one of the kits on the market or boil it at a radiator shop. Run new lines and install new filters. Crud can be anywhere. Do it right one time.

Ok making some headway, , got all the gas out and check the drqin plug nothing coming out, , now whats the best way to get the 1/2 nut off of the gas line were it goes into the tank, ,, and i am guessing that to remove the tank you have to remove the step bracket also? ! Ill post some pic when i get back inside

Thanks
