I have never had this much trouble putting a transmission & engine together. The engine is an ATK rebuilt should be a 82-85 mustang part # DF11, the transmission is from a junk yard should be from a 95 F150 4 speed automatic electric, The flex plate is from an old 89 bronco 5.0 I had. I put the flex plate on to the converter ok and the converter goes into the tranny ok. when I try to put it all together either the top or bottom of the tranny will not go in. I even took it apart twice the 2nd time I used 4" studs into the engine and slid everything together and same thing
Any ideas before I give up and go get a C-4

 

Is there a pilot bushing in the end of the crank for the Mustang's 5 speed? Are you sure you have the converter drain plug going into a hole in the flexplate? Is the converter set into the pump all the way back? Those are the 3 most common reasons why people have trans to block fitting issues.

X3 on converter not seated in pump. If you turned engine while trying to pull the two together you may have damaged pump. Don't ask how I know.
