NASA I think we have a problem.

My truck is cranking way too long before it starts. The last three times I started it cranked for about 10 seconds, then I would cycle it again and crank it for about 5 seconds before it finally starts. I'm thinking it might be time to check the FICM. To give you a little back ground, I straight piped my truck about a year ago. Shortly afterward I noticed my truck was cranking over longer then usual before starting, coincidence? First thing I checked was the FICM voltage which was fine. So I've been driving without a problem since the. Now as of today it's taking much much longer to finally start. I will put a meter on the FICM tomorrow. Any other thoughts or ideas?

More info like year

Check the FICM

Sounds Like a HPO Problem so it would be good to check ICP--ICPV--IPR%

Standpipes aren't too hard, but your problem is most likely the dummy plug o-rings. They fail at a much higher rate than the standpipe o-rings.

NOT Bad

Valve Cover comes off and Oil Rail on top inject comes out

The Standpipe feeds the Oil Rail and you will also change 1 plug each Rail

Standpipes and Dummey Plugs are done together

Same work to Get them BOTH Changed out and Price of Parts is OK

The SAD Part is Only Repair Shops Tend to Only change 1 at a Time

this is where they "Bad Shops" like to Screw them All the Labor to keep going in

But the Bottom Line right Now is For you to get a Gauge so the truck can be Tested

Throwing parts will be spendy unless there is a Plan

The Gauge will let you see the Bulk amount of the S#!) so its Fast and Saves money

Ok I was just on amazon, they have the scan gauge II for $159 and free 2 day shipping with my prime account. Is there a special model of the scan gauge I should be ordering or just the SCII

Is there a typical timeline on this, from when it starts acting up until when it leaves me stranded?

Well I finally got my SGII set up and on the truck. The FICM volts checked out, the injector pressure stayed up above 500 (hot start). Still doesn't explain the hard starts. Is there something else I should be checking? The good news s my oil cooler appears healthy for now. Once I was all set up correctly I went for a ride . Initially the temps stayed within 0 to 2 degrees of each other. After a WOT run up to 90mph they split by 6 degrees, 194 & 188. It pretty much stayed there from that point on. I guess I don't have an oil cooler problem (yet).
