Thanks for all of the updates, Denny.

I'm assuming you're at some kind of RV park down there in Yuma. As such, I'm also assuming you see LOTS of other RVers with diesel tow rigs. You making any converts down there?

Yes we are in a small park in the NW part of Yuma, coming from a V10 and now the 6.2 I gave up trying to convert anyone but just like the V10 when guys find out whats under the hood they don't want their wife's to find out that they may have spent a lot more money on a truck than was needed.

During the break in period whatever it is I treated it nice for the first 370 miles and then started using it like it's going to be used the rest of the time we own it. The first trip was flatland but from 3K on its been ***** to the wall and this little motor takes it and comes back for more. I don't care if the 6.7 has 800 ft lbs of torque and the 6.2 only has 405 because thats all I need to get the job done, we will take the extra money and spend it on travel.

RVPuller,
Thanks for all the info and I hope your stay in Yuma is a good one. I just got word today via the FTE Ford rep that my truck is on the production line and possible delivery by Nov. 17 if all goes well. Got my fingers crossed and my toes too! It's amazing that it has taken me a couple of years to make this decision and now that I have I can't wait to get the new truck. I hope my truck is as good as yours is for you, my wife and I are already planning the trip from Florida to Del. and then westward to Salt lake City and places not yet thought up. We will be giving it a good test run and I hope to post our travels here on FTE as we go. Again thanks for all the updates and positive feedback on the 6.2L engine.

Just remember one thing on your new truck; It will get better with age.

We pull between 55/65, it really depends on what gear I was in. With my 4.30 gears and 17" tires it works best if I want to use 6th gear if I run 65 mph (2000 rpm). I had to go back to 5th around 62, this is on the flat. What really works great is locking it into a gear and use the speed control, the speed will drop about 7 mph before it kicks out if it has to when you are going over small inclines but most of the it stayed in, you can also downshift it with the speed control engaged and shift it back up when you get backup to speed. And if you watch the instant fuel mileage it makes a big difference on the mileage when using speed control and locking gears because it limits the throttle override over what I would do with my foot.

Once you get used to the combination it's really fun to drive, I found that it I was pulling hard it was best to keep the rpms above 3K and shift it around 4200.

Now that I have figured out how best to drive it I'm sure I can get over 9 pulling without any problem. This trip I average 8 overall but that's with big grades high altitudes and the truck breaking in. I won't know until March when we head to Texas and home to Nebraska with no big grades or supper high altitudes.

Denny, I just did around a thousand miles through the rolling hills of KY going east and west on I24.

I have a 250 SRW with 4.30 and tow a high profile 5th wheel that will weigh in around 11.5. Running in M with the cruise on I find that it is necessasry to downshift to 5th ao the up grandes and then of course it can coast on the down grandes in 6th. This results in a constant up and down shifting.

What is your take. Just leave it in 5th at around 2500. I was wondering about fuel consumption also but find that hard to figure out.

I am thinking that I will let it spend a lot more time running free in 5th on the next trip that way and thru the Smokies and see what the overall outcome is on mileage.

Your thoughts?

Thanks Denny,
I am looking forward to see what the 2015's look like and if there is any Power upgrades to the 6.2, I just cant see the need to go with the 6.7 now with what you are saying about your towing experiences with the 6.2. I have a 99 F-350 with the V-10 and going by the Dyno Graphs on 5 Stars website I am going to gain roughly 100 HP more than I am getting with my 99, and it pulls my Raptor fine with the V-10.

I Really appreciate your time and information you have put on this Forum it is making my decision easy to go with the 6.2 on my next Truck purchase.

Dave I only used 6th when I was on relatively flat ground, if I had to downshift to often I would use 5th or 4th. I found that in the hills 4th is nice but if you want climb a hill in a hurry 3rd can be your best friend, 55 in 3rd is no problem with this motor.

Another reason my mileage was a little low is because I was playing with different ways to drive it and just having fun. On other trucks I had to wait for fill ups to figure gas mileage but with the instant fuel mileage it's easier because you can reset it and change way you are driving.

John going from a 99 V10 to a 6.2 will be a pleasant surprise with the increase in power, you are already used to the higher rpm so it will just getting used to the different sound. The V10 has a sound all its own but the 6.2 sounds like a big bore V8, reminds me of the muscle car days.

Denny I have read through this entire thread and thank you for all your info.

I am actually trading in my 2008 6.4 Crewcab 2wd on Tuesday for a 2014 6.2 that I ordered 6 weeks ago with the 4.30 rear end.

I didn't put many miles on the 2008, only 22,200 on it right now.. We bought it because we upgraded fivers in 2009 and the F150 wouldn't handle the 10,000 Cougar. I kept meticulous mileage records and my truck was DPF/Doc deleted and H&S mini maxx tuned. At 65 MPH with myself, my wife, and our 2 kids, loaded for a 2 week camping trip, I would avg 12-12.5 MPG with the 6.4.

With the cost of diesel almost a dollar more a gallon currently here in KC, I am looking forward to saving 30 bucks a fill up.

I will let you all know my first impressions of the truck.

I'm not gonna lie, wish I still had my 2003 7.3, but hindsight is always 20/20.

you might miss that engine, but a 10 year old truck? lots of other issues start popping up. Just saying

Yeah but she was a Lariat with every option except heated seats...

And the fact that I only put about 5,000 miles a year on my trucks... she would have less than 60k on her..

I seem to see this statement a LOT. Whether on this site, or any of the other forums...guys who sell their trusty ol' 7.3L seem to almost always regret it.
