Buying a new (reman.) motor... which one to get?
Hi guys,
I'm made a few posts in the last few weeks about my F600 and have decided to put a new motor in it... To make a long story short it burns oil by the gallon and smokes like a steam engine. I've tried all the basic stuff and decided it's not worth fixing (has 185,000 miles) and I
It's a 370 with a 4 barrel carb. I'm not looking for anything more than stock performance, I just need something that will be reliable... This is a dump truck hauling 7-8 ton on a regular basis so it will spend a lot of time in the 2500-3000 rpm range... on the highway I cruise around 2500.
So here are my options so far... looking for some feedback/ experience. These prices are for "long-blocks".
Napa- $2750 1 year or 12,000 mile warranty. Not sure what brand this is, they said "Napa" rebuilds them, which I doubt is true.
Jasper- $2975 1 year or 18,000 mile warranty. I'm still waiting for some calls back from different places.
I'm also waiting for a call back from Advance Auto and they apparently have two different brands they sell.
The less I spend the happier I'll be, but I'm not looking for "cheapest". At this point it's all way more than I wanted to spend so I may as well go for quality. I big concern for me is warranty service... The guy I talked to about the Jasper said that if there is an issue they usually send another motor, take the old one, and charge you a "core" until they confirm that the motor was bad. He said it didn't matter that I was installing it myself. Sounds fair to me if it actually works out like that.
Thanks,
Austin
