does anyone know the size of the freeze plugs on top of a mazda m5od? about nine months after the rebuild,one of them came out,so,now i have a greasy mess under my truck

 

Don't try to replace it on the truck, yank the shifter and pull the carpet back, there is a big plate covering the top of the trans. Pull that off and the top of the trans will be revealed and you can take the top assy. off the trans and then get the plug replaced. Back in the day they used rubber plugs but you had to glue them in there with Permatex so they would not leak.

 

thanks for the advice. i didn't know about the access panel in the truck. i got the metal plugs from the trans shop today,so i will put them in as soon as i get a day off

 

To make it easier when you go to reinstall the shifter assembly, place the transmission in neutral before you remove the shift lever from the top plate.

 

got it done after work today. thanks jas88. i didn't know the panel was there and it made life great doing it that way
