1966 F250 Deluxe Camper Special Ranger
#16
If you snooze, you loose! If you're unaware, you're SOL!
I would have bought it, had it flatbedded to Bill's Auto Repair in Orange, told him to fix all that's wrong with it.
Bill specializes in Ford products thru 1979, has worked on several '60's Galaxies I've owned in the past, is a member of SoCal Galaxies.
I'm too old and arthritic to bend over fenders, so Bill does the work. I can detail the interior/exterior, but that's about it.
btw: 76f350spercamprspeal (Anthony) who asked what the FoMoCo thing was on the left inner fender apron (washer bag), also lives in Murrieta.
He's a pal a mine and "Squire" Don. Both of them have stayed at my residencia more than once. Don has stayed here at least 20 days in the two trips he's taken to LA LA Land.
Residencia is becoming a flop house for FTE members. Besides these two, Aussie53 and his brother have stayed here, as has Keith (wagonerki), another WA (Sedro-Woolley) resident.

Thanks. It did take a bit of determination.
Here's a few more pics.
Gas tank cover. Carpet is faded pretty much except where the seats are.
Drivers's side door opening where gas tank cover hooks to vertical trim pieces.
I've removed the rear window already since the rubber needs to be replaced. Got window out without damage. It's an original Carlite dated 6F, I think it was.
And, I took off the trim on the sides of the bed and found original paint under there. Should look good once repainted in its original colors.

Another great one! It looks like they moved the console way forward and maybe even turned it around backwards.
Only the drivers door had a map pocket but I dug through all the junk in there and while it is mostly 1974 era maps, here's a few gems I thought I'd share.
First, a June 1967 KOA campground guide. Sorry, Kampground.
Looks like a slick to the left of the A frame in this picture.
And a Fridge loaded with a nice big camper.
Then an October 1965 CHP Vehicle Code quick guide
And finally a 1966 Maidens calendar. Since this is a family forum I cannot show individual month pictures...

Since some of the following documents contain non-public information I have covered the sensitive information.
Some noticed the truck had commercial black plates on it. I've removed them since I can't run them in Washington state, but I'll put them away as they are part of the trucks history. Definitely plates are not aluminum but a sheet metal I'd guess. The upper (front) plate has no tabs and shows the "63" in the upper right corner. The lower (rear) plate has a stack of tabs at least 1/4" thick. The month tab on the left corner is from October, same month the truck was purchased. Looks like it might be the original sticker there.
Title from way back. It has the name of the credit union they used. And it shows the license plate number. So, the plates aren't just some black plates, but THE plates that were originally issued with the truck.
Original registration. Same number on paper as the title and same plate number.
And one of the inside of the owners manual. The two pieces stapled to the inside - you can read the top one. The bottom one is a CHP Motor Vehicle Pollution Control Certificate of Compliance dated 10/7/66 and has VIN and Max's name on it and a certificate number 490515.
And finally, this little do-dad. Notice the Ford logo right in the tape.

Definitely plates are not aluminum (they better not be, cuz if they were, they'd be fakes!), but sheet metal.

All trucks are required to have commercial plates, unless they have a permanent mounted camper shell or camper. Non commercial plates much cheaper to register.
Black commercial plates were issued at least into 1971. Early commercial/non commercial plates have 1963 embossed on them, later plates do not. Black plates replaced the yellow plates used 1956/62.
Several people are reproducing black plates in plastic and aluminum. Also available (probably illegal) are black plates with license numbers issued beginning with the Blue plates, that were also sheet metal, as were the first issue white plates.
Neighbor down the street has a newish Mustang ragtop (I can't tell one year from another, who can?!)...with black plates.
Ham radio operator black plates can be transferred from older to newer vehicles, ditto Consular Corp black plates. There are no personalized or D/P black plates, neither was available until years later.

No doubt about it, those are the original issued commercial black plates. Most all '66's in Calif were sold new with either a T, U or V pre fix. Most all '65 had R, S or T prefix. Most '64's had N or P prefix. There is some overlapping depending on time of year sold (early or late in the year) About the month sticker. Month stickers were introduced in the mid 70's in California. Before that you just piled up the odd years and even years. There should be a year sticker under the OCT, unless it was already peeled off.

Some are now selling the old plates that are "dmv clear". California has "Year of Manufacture" option for license plates. 21.175 Year of Manufacture (YOM) License Plates (CVC §5004.1) A nice addition for a period correct truck.

In my 4x4 thread I have pictures of the "born with" Washington plates from my other two trucks that I use for both of them (along with original registration to verify plates are original). Scroll down on this page and you'll see the pair for one truck and the single for the other truck. We really only have to run one in back. No front plate needed when running vintage plates.

But, since I'm in Washington I can't run the Cali black plates. I might put them on if I ever take it to a Ford gathering or something like that.
