all my brake lines seem to be not leaking, except where the light switch goes into the proportioning value. the switch is steel going into brass. what kind of thread compound can i use to stop the leak. brake fluid eats teflon tape (at least the kind i have)?
Does your truck have stock brakes? By your post here and the words "porportioning valve", I'd gather that it doesn't have stock brakes. If not, you shouldn't have fluid in that port for that switch and it's a bad porportioning valve ( I know definitely GM ones are that way). If it is stock, the bolt going into the master cyl with the brake light switch in the end, then you might have a bad bolt or the switch is cross threaded. They should not need any teflon tape or sealer. Brake fluid will eat away the teflon tape. On my stock 50 , I did not seal the threads in any way, and it doesn't leak at all.
I read the post that you said that you used a MII front susp. on your truck. Are you using the switch in the Must porportioning valve to run your lights? If so, that sw. is for the idiot brake light on the dash on the cars. I might have misunderstood. You need to mount a late model brake light switch on your pedal somehow. Correct me if I'm not reading your post correctly. I explained what I read before to a buddy who's a mechanical wiz with cars and trucks ( GM shop forman) and I was just repeating what he told me on porportioning valves.
Dale; Years ago in the Marine Industry we would use a product called (gaseolia) a orange colored ,brush on semi-liquid. that would dry semi-hard and be inpervious to any and all fluids.you might try a OMC boat dealer in Richmond. Jim VA.
