52 Merc M3 - Tranny bolts removal

Hello folks, I'm above to do the engine swap on my Merc. I was underneath the truck trying to get the 2 - 1" bolts off that mount the tranny onto the cross member. These bolts have cotter pins and no room to put a 1" socket in. Am I missing something obvious? How do you guys get these 2 bolts out? I tried to get the bolt heads off the bottom of the crossmember.. but they don't want to budge. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Roshan

I had to get the nuts removed with two combo wrenches and then lift the transmission up off the bolts. Then they would come out of the frame.

we had our transmission cover off when we did this and it made it much easier, esp. if you have one guy holding the bolt on the bottom and another guy can use a socket on the top.

Oh okay. Guess I'll have to go out and get a set of 1" box wrench.

Oh.. That's a great idea. Never thought of that. I'll give that a try today evening. BTW, my cotter pins look like they don't want to come out. Do you think the torque of an impact wrench can rip that apart?
