So what dimension should be the correct one??? Do I have the wrong axel??

And the ball stud that is on the left spindle. How do I replace that, it was pretty oval. I have a new one. Is it as simple as grinding the forged part away with an anglegrinder, press it out, press in the new one, heat the end orange red and hit it on the edge repeatedly with a ball hammer?

Thanks for all the answeres

and by the way thanks dmac91!
I know it is a late response, but it looks like you have the correct axle. NAPA lists the kingpin set at .859 or .869 if oversize.

Looking at the Mid Fifty catalog, it looks like you are right on the ball stud. It appears to be a press fit.

Some updates

DinnerHill SpeedShop: CPP Dual master cylinder, Drum Drum mockup

I got some help on the forum to realise that I hadn´t made the homework and that I should have bought a clutch shaft elongation kit, but I will probably go with the modification of the stock bracket and offset that the same amount to line up the MC and the brake pedal.

DinnerHill SpeedShop: Rear sway bar, mockup, first try

DinnerHill SpeedShop: Rear leaf spring perch modifications #1

DinnerHill SpeedShop: Leaf spring perch modification #2

DinnerHill SpeedShop: Y-hangers bushing replacement part #1

Short questions: Is it mandatory to ream the Y-hangers and the spring eye bushings after installation? or have I just gotten a tight set?

Actually I read your post a couple days ago and enjoyed seeing the progress you made and the innovative solutions to the spring perches. But since I don't know too much about those MODERN 53 and latter trucks I didn't make any comments I will now though, have enjoyed following along and appreciate the good work you have been doing.

Thanks! It's always good for the moral with comments. And I hope I can pay back to the community that offers me help when needed!

You are already paying back to many I am sure. This is one of
the best and most documented builds on this site. There must
be many that use it and your talent for there builds.

As for making comments, what can lowly shade tree mechanics
say to a master builder such as yourself?

Other than thank You

Thanks1

But this is my first car restoration ever, so I need all the info I can get and I am searching the www on a daily basis to get the info I need, most of the times it works out and once and a while I makes things the wrong way and try to learn from it. I find it quite fun to document it both for my own pleasure and as a memory and so that other can take benefit of it.

But you know it is always good to get comment for boosting the moral.

Thanks again

Jimmy,

Looks great (as usual). Keep up the progress. Do you have a target date to do a test drive yet?
