I had the same problem with my 7.3 engine, dealer replaced the CPS (camshaft position sensor) worked well since. I can not say that is the cause with gas engine.

If it was the alternator, it probably wouldn't start. I would start with the fuel system. Filter, clean the IAC valve, then off to the pump.

Mine did something similar right after I got it, although it wouldn't run. It would crank and TRY to start, but wouldn't. It was the fuel pump.

Good Luck!

I would think IAC. Did it all of a sudden happen or progressively get worse?

To OP, I'd check fuel pressure. Could be fuel pump or filter etc. To Toxic, I've had codes show up when there is no CEL on (superchips flashpaq). Although the folks at Autozone, swear they are only for when that light is on. I'd scan it if you can.
