i know it needs a tune up but it runs good and since i cleaned the crap out of the iac it idles nice and smooth no dead spots in the throttle doesn't run hot aside from the mileage and the fact that it will need a new clutch before to long there is nothing wrong with it. It also only has 97k miles on it. Does still have a cracked exhaust manifold i forgot about (been hectic lately) but i wouldn't think it would make a big difference.

As promised... An update on the trials of a new member with a V10:

my average MPG BEFORE SCT Tuner with Mikes 89 ECO tune from 5startuning, first two tanks. 8.9MPG & 10.8MPG.
After SCT, and granted... Mostly Highway this time, I got 11.7 & last night with only a 1/3 tank down (I couldn't resist checking it again) I got 14.74!

I'm tickled pink! Thanks Mike! You da man!

I also feel like its got more pep to boot!

Cant wait to try the other tunes....

Part of owning a V10 means that you shouldn't think to hard about minor trivialities like gas mileage - or at least try not to.

I've seen as high as 16mpg keeping it 55 - 60 mph. In mixed driving I'm somewhere in the 12-14 mpg range just depending on how much stop and go there is going on. The worst mileage I've seen with it was around 8 mpg going up and down the hills on US65 between Springfield & Branson.

As far as I know, mine is a bone stock 2 valve non-PI V10 with a 4R100 auto OD trans with 3.73 gears. It hurts the wallet to drive, but everyone is comfortable when we hit the road, it can handle the trailer, and best of all, its paid for!

Owning a V10

Good points Dave!

I bought this beast because it fits me and my family comfortably and we plan on adding a Travel Trailer in the next year or so.
We want a comfortable, large trailer, so this gives us a lot of options.
As so many others have said, Ford spent a lot of time and effort making these vehicles dependable and safe for pulling large masses while still optimizing fuel efficiency as best they could. I'm sure there is no magic modification that will somehow yield me amazing MPG. I'm a happy camper.... I just like to fiddle with things... And the tuner was an easy upgrade.

Evening All!

I spent the better part of the day at the shop trying to get some order in there. I ran out of 2"x4"s before I could finish building the shelves I wanted. I DID get the cut bench and work bench finished. I'll pick up a few more 2"x4"s on the way home from the "job" tomorrow and finish building my shelves.

I got a few goodies at the yard sales yesterday. I got an old High School AV cart for $20 and a mini fridge for $20. I also went to Harbor Freight and replaced my stripped out vise and seized grinder.

Anyway, here's what the shop looks like tonight.....

Cool shop Alan. One of these days I'll get my outbuilding whipped into shape so I can move in and set up shop. Pictures like these make me want it all the more...

Good Morning Everybody!

I'm off to the "job" this morning, then I have a steering column to fix at the shop tonight. I think I'm gonna move the mill on Wednesday. After that, everything is moved in and I can start getting some work done!

Chip. It's very roomy. I'm looking forward to NOT tripping over myself and knocking stuff over just turning around for a wrench.

Whaddupp Y'all! Long time no hear I know. Just nothing new to tell about or even any good lies. Until today...
I've been talking it over with the boss (Shari) this last couple of months since we're car payment free, about replacing my trusty 01 F150.
So while she was at work, Tim and I went "Looking" and spent $26K for my next ride. It's a beautiful 2011 F150 Super Crew with the 32 valve 5.0, 4x2, and only 19K on the odometer. It's in Maryland so we're waiting for delivery, they really don't want customers running around picking things up from the other lots. So I have to wait, something I'm not too good at doing.

I can see y'all have been busy, Alan congrats on Ka'Bluey, I'm glad to know where he is, and that he's being taken care of. Congrats on the new shop, I hope it makes you a ton of cash so you can move your family out here so I can have somebody to play with...

Unk Bob

Awesome Unk Bob and congratulations.

Nothing beats driving a new Ford, especially out to Colorado and back. That thing drove like a rocket on rails and rode like being on cloud 9.

But it was no where near as nice as yours is.
